What is the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course?

MBSR is an 8 week training program in mindfulness meditation developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD at the University of Massachusetts.   Research over the last 30 years has proven the efficacy of this form of mindfulness to decrease the symptoms of:

  • Headache
  • Migraine
  • Hot Flashes
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic Pain
  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • Tension in jaw, neck, shoulders
  • It improves the speed of recovery from:  cancer, surgery, heart attack, and stroke

Each course will include:

  • a weekly two-and-a-half hour class for eight weeks
  • guided meditations and meditation instruction
  • gentle stretching exercises in yoga techniques
  • instructions for maintaining awareness in daily life
  • group discussion
  • a brief daily home assignment
  • CD and packet of handouts for the home practice assignments
