What is the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course?
MBSR is an 8 week training program in mindfulness meditation developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD at the University of Massachusetts. Research over the last 30 years has proven the efficacy of this form of mindfulness to decrease the symptoms of:
- Hot Flashes
- Chronic Pain
- Teeth grinding (bruxism)
- Tension in jaw, neck, shoulders
- It improves the speed of recovery from: cancer, surgery, heart attack, and stroke
Each course will include:
- a weekly two-and-a-half hour class for eight weeks
- guided meditations and meditation instruction
- gentle stretching exercises in yoga techniques
- instructions for maintaining awareness in daily life
- group discussion
- a brief daily home assignment
- CD and packet of handouts for the home practice assignments
